Boating Safety
The Massachusetts Environmental Police sponsor this program. Registration is required.
To be held (you must attend all dates):
To register, visit http://mass.gov/ole. To contact the Massachusetts Environmental Police Boat and Recreation Vehicle Safety Bureau by phone, call (508) 564-4961.
Please note -- Boat Massachusetts provides the following text:
BOAT MASSACHUSETTS is a state and nationally approved boating safety course, concentrating on the equipment and operating guidelines needed to enjoy boating safely and responsibly.
All graduates in the 12 to 15-year-old age group will be issued a safety certificate allowing them to operate a motorboat without adult supervision, as required by state law. The same is true for 16 and 17-year-old youth who wish to operate a personal watercraft (jet ski, wave runner, etc.).
The course runs 10-12 hours in length. The normal format is 5-6 two hours classes, though this may vary. All classes are free of charge. Classes are for adults and youth 12 years of age and older. Family participation is encouraged and has proven to be very rewarding.
Hunter Safety
The Division of Fisheries and Wildlife sponsors this class. Among the many topics to be covered will be the safe handling of sporting firearms, ammunition, hunting laws, wildlife identification, and basic survival skills. It is open to members and non-members.
We offer the class at our club once or twice a year. How to find out more and to enroll: Please use the state website here: http://www.mass.gov/eea/agencies/dfg/dfw/education-events/hed/hunter-edu.... The signup period starts 60 days before the class date. For additional information, contact Tim Gallant (Master Hunter Education Instructor) at tkg488@verizon.net
Hunter Safety Education Instructors Wanted:
The course is free to the public and taught by volunteer certified Instructors. Unfortunately, our club has only two Basic Hunter Education qualified instructors.
To date, we have relied upon the availability and goodwill of instructors from other clubs. This source of instructions may not continue to be available to the club in the future.
The requirement to become a Basic Hunter Education qualified instructor is minimal. The rewards are great! To know that you have helped train knowledgeable, ethical, and safe hunters for the sport we all enjoy.
Please consider becoming a Massachusetts Hunter Education Safety Instructor. The program depends on volunteers like you. It would also be a shame to see our Club lose a program. This is such a valuable educational asset. For further information on becoming an Instructor, please contact Tim Gallant at
tkg488@verizon.net.
